Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Garo Hills conducted training programme and distributed inputs under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

        ICAR- KVK, West Garo Hills (WGH) conducted one training programme on “Sustainable Poultry Farming Practices” at its premises on 14th November 2024. Fifteen farmers and farm women from three villages participated in the training programme. The training mostly emphasized on comprehensive approach of sustainable poultry farming involving animal welfare, environmental conservation and efficient use of resources. Speaking on the occasion,Dr. Monica Suresh Singh, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK, WGH, highlighted the importance of Integrated poultry production with other agricultural systems like crop farming, agroforestry or aquaculture. Dr. Tarun Kumar Das, CTO, Agricultural Extension, KVK, WGH urged the participants to explore alternative feed sources for reducing cost and environmental impacts in poultry production. Technical session was taken by Dr. Sagarika Borah, STO, Animal Science, KVK, WGH. She delivered an in-depth presentation on Poultry Farming Practices, elaborating on the core principles of sustainability in poultry production.A field visit was made to azolla production unit in KVK’s farm to provide participants with practical insights into how azolla can be used as animal feed.
        On the same day, KVK, West Garo Hills also conducted one inputs distribution programme funded by Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), ICAR-RC for NEH region, Umiam. Under TSP fund, KVK, West Garo Hills already benefitted more than 350 tribal farmers in the district by implementing different technologies related to livestock and poultry farming viz improved pig production, duck farming, backyard kuroiler and Vanaraja farming during last five years period.On 14th Nov.2024, KVK distributed Kuroiler chicks, feeds, drinkers, feeders, medicines, vitamins and azolla culture among 15 farmers and farm women for implementing “Backyard Kuroiler Farming” at farmers’ field. KVK, West Garo Hills popularized Vanaraja and Kuroiler breeds under TSP benefitting farmers in West Garo Hills district specially women farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sagarika Borah, STO, Animal Science, KVK, West Garo Hills.
